Cary School District 26 Board appoints new member

CARY – The Cary School District 26 board has appointed a member to fill its vacant seat.

Robert Bridge will take the seat left open by Chris Christensen when he resigned to fill a term on the McHenry County Board. Christensen is running in the November election to keep his County Board seat.

The school board chose its new appointee at its regular meeting Monday. Bridge will serve through the April 2017 general election.

Bridge said he plans on running to retain his seat, and had planned on running even before there was a vacancy.

“I’m a very strong supporter of strong schools,” Bridge said. “I see them as kind of a centerpiece of the strength of the community.”

Bridge has been a corporate attorney for more than 20 years, he said, and has a master’s of business administration degree from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

He and his wife have four children, including one child who has gone through District 26 and one who is currently enrolled.

Three candidates were interviewed by the board for the seat, according to a news release from the district.

“All three candidates were highly qualified for the position, which made it a very difficult decision for the board,” Superintendent Brian Coleman said in a statement. “We look forward to Mr. Bridge’s contribution to the board and his service to District 26.”

The school board generally meets at 7 p.m. on the last Monday of the month. For a full schedule and list of locations, visit www.cary26.org.
