Crystal Lake Central High School teacher put on leave resigns

Justin Hubly also served as choir director

CRYSTAL LAKE – The choir director for Crystal Lake Central High School and the president of the district’s teachers union has resigned after being placed on administrative leave.

The Community High School District 155 Board at a special meeting Tuesday evening accepted the resignation of fine arts teacher Justin Hubly. He had been put on paid leave since last month, pending an investigation of what the district called a “personnel matter.”

District officials said they could not comment about the matter beyond confirming the resignation.

An email sent to parents last month from Principal Steve Olson reassured them that classes and extracurriculars would not be interrupted, and that the district was “cooperating with local authorities as appropriate.”

Hubly, of Crystal Lake, became the school’s choir director in 2004. He also served as student activities director, and served five terms as president of the District 155 Education Association, which represents teachers at all four of the district’s high schools. He made $85,290 a year, not counting benefits, according to school records.
