WOODSTOCK – A McHenry man was arrested for driving under the influence Tuesday afternoon after an ATV crash sent his passenger to the hospital, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and the sheriff’s office responded about 2:50 p.m. to a cornfield near Route 47 and Ware Road in Woodstock.

Byron Rietsel, 59, of McHenry, was driving a side-by-side ATV when he crashed into the field. His passenger, a 58-year-old McHenry man, was ejected from the ATV, McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Aimee Knop said.

He was taken by Flight for Life to the Level 1 Trauma Center at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The driver was uninjured in the crash, Knop said. Rietsel was charged with DUI and aggravated DUI causing injury. He was expected to appear in rights court Wednesday morning.
