ALGONQUIN – Community Unit School District 300 students who share photos of themselves reading during winter break can win a Barnes and Noble gift card from the district’s #D300Reads campaign.
The district-led campaign will be in effect until Jan. 2, with the goal of encouraging students to read during the holiday season. All students have to do is post to Twitter a photo of them reading a book while using #D300Reads in the post. For those who don’t have a Twitter account, they can submit their pictures to www.d300.org/D300Reads.
Throughout the campaign, one prize will be awarded to a student in high school, middle school and elementary school from Monday through Friday. Students are eligible to enter once a day.
Anthony McGinn, District 300 director of public relations and communication services, said the campaign was first implemented in November during Thanksgiving break.
“We want to make sure we’re enhancing their literacy skills at all times,” McGinn said.
Because of the success of the November campaign, McGinn said, the district decided to bring it back for winter and spring break.
“We had a very quiet marketing push the first time because we wanted to see how successful it would be if students were only engaging it through social media and our website,” McGinn said. “We ended up seeing a lot of people participate and handed out all the gift cards during that break.”
Winners of the campaign will be notified on Twitter or via email if they are selected for a prize.
