McCullom Lake fire causes about $40,000 in damage

McCULLOM LAKE – A McCullom Lake fire resulted in significant damage to three detached storage buildings and the contents inside, a fire official said.

The McHenry Township Fire District was dispatched about 8 a.m. Monday to a report of a grass fire in the 2900 block of Spring Road in McCullom Lake.

While responding, fire officials received reports that a shed also was on fire.

Upon arrival, the first fire unit discovered three detached storage buildings on fire.

The fire was under control within 10 minutes.

Battalion Chief Kevin Sears said that it looked as if the fire initially started at a large storage building and spread to two adjacent sheds.

Damage is estimated at $40,000, Sears said, and two nearby residential structures also sustained heat damage.

No residents or firefighters were injured, and investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
