CRYSTAL LAKE – A Cary restaurant is looking to open a second location along Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

Breaking Bread Catering and Deli is asking the Crystal Lake City Council for a $10,000 grant from the city’s Retailer Job Creation and Investment program to open a second location in the Country Corners shopping center at 230 W. Virginia Ave., Suite 250, between Pablo’s and Krystal Thai, according to city documents.

The City Council will consider the request at its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 100 W. Woodstock St., Crystal Lake.

Breaking Bread Catering and Deli offers specialty sub sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs and other fare. Teri and Chris Plazak opened Breaking Bread at 638 Route 14, Cary, in 2013.

Breaking Bread plans to hire one full-time employee and six part-time workers for the new restaurant.

It also plans to spend about $60,000 on equipment and fixtures to outfit the new space.

Under terms of the grant program, if the restaurant closes before the required four-year period, the city would be able to recoup the money, according to city documents.

The city budgeted $80,000 for the program for fiscal 2017.
