High School Girls Soccer: Dacanay's second-half goals lift Marian Central

Marian Central’s Erica Dacanay scored a pair of goals in the second half as the Hurricanes defeated Nazareth Saturday in their East Suburban Catholic Conference opener.

The Hurricanes (2-1 overall, 1-0 ESCC) trailed 1-0 at halftime. Kailin Fortin and Karlie Blaz each had assists on Dacanay’s goals. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Schwalbach had four saves.

“We really battled the conditions, the wind and matched up with them physically,” Marian coach Karl Smith said. “We had the wind in the second half and put some pressure on them. It wasn’t pretty, but a good team has to win games like that.”

Crystal Lake South 3, Schaumburg 0: Courtney Sengstock scored two goals to help the Gators past the Saxons in their season opener Saturday in Schaumburg.

Emily Warren scored South’s first goal off an assist from Jessica Schoenfeldt. Sengstock scored in the first half with an assist from her sister Cameron, then scored in the second half on Brooke Dunteman’s assist.

The Gators’ Annika Sevcik had four saves in goal.

Dundee-Crown loses two: D-C fell to York, 4-0, and to host Elk Grove, 2-1, at the Elk Grove Tournament. It was the first games of the season for the Chargers.

Taylor Coffman scored the Chargers’ goal against Elk Grove in the second half off a free kick. Diana Santillan-Ceja had six saves in the first game and five in the second.
