High School Girls Track and Field: Cary-Grove wins Whitewater meet

Cary-Grove’s Paige Groves threw 37-5 1/2 to take second in the shot put and help the Trojans to first place at the Nelson-Daniel Classic Indoor Track and Field Meet Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Trojans got third-place finishes from Lori Begun (triple jump) and Tabor Gleason (high jump) had the other highest finishes.

Woodstock’s Cora Uidl went 11-0 to win the pole vault. The Blue Streaks’ Kylie Hagmann took third in the 3,200.

Crystal Lake South’s Caitlin Bruzzini took second in the 1,600 and Cailey Ciezadlo was second in the 55-meter dash.

Byron Indoor Classic: At Byron, Prairie Ridge scored big in the field events to take third place as a team in the meet.

Natasha Schaffer grabbed firsts in the triple jump (34-11 1/2) and long jump (15-7). Sam Fisher won the pole vault (11-1) and Elise Gregory won the high jump (4-8).

Hampshire was fourth in the meet, led by Sophia Oury’s win in the 1,600. Oury also anchored the Whip-Purs’ winning 4x400 relay team with Alexis Nguyen, Marie Mayer and RIley Seagren.

Mayer took second in the 800 and Kaylyn Cortez was second in the 400.

Harvard’s Cynthia Pelayo took second in the triple jump.
