Lake in the Hills Trustee Russ Ruzanski defeats incumbent Village President Paul Mulcahy

LAKE IN THE HILLS – Lake in the Hills Trustee Russ Ruzanski likely will take Village President Paul Mulcahy’s seat.

Ruzanski received 807 votes and Mulcahy received 489, according to preliminary results. There were 1,296 people who voted in the race, and not all precincts had been reported by press time.

“I’m going to roll my sleeves up and pursue the things I promised people I would do,” Ruzanski said Tuesday night.

Ruzanski has been a Lake in the Hills trustee since 2011. Before then, he served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for two years and the Business Relations Committee for four years, leading it for two.

As president, Ruzanski said he’s looking forward to improving community development in the village and working to balance the budget without transferring funds between accounts.

One of his first actions also will be to select a person to fill his spot on the Lake in the Hills Village Board. Throughout his campaign, Ruzanski emphasized having more diversity on the board.

“I feel very, very good about it, and I want to thank everyone that’s been a part of my team,” Ruzanski said. “Many people have shared their thoughts, and especially their prayers, and that means an awful lot to me.”

Mulcahy has been the village president since 2013, and before that had a history as a trustee on the board and a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Part of what prompted Ruzanski to run for the spot was when Mulcahy was charged with domestic battery in November.

Mulcahy could not immediately be reached for comment.
