Crystal Lake City Council incumbents sail to easy victory

CRYSTAL LAKE – Three incumbent City Council members won four more years from voters Tuesday evening, according to unofficial totals.

Voters re-elected incumbents Cameron Hubbard, Ralph Dawson and Haig Haleblian, all of whom leaped out ahead of challengers Sally Munn and Stefano Liparoto with the first posting of returns.

Munn was almost 600 votes behind Haleblian as of Tuesday evening, with Liparoto coming in last, according to unofficial totals. The McHenry County Clerk’s Office still was counting votes into Tuesday night, long after other counties had posted their results. Haleblian won election to a full term – he was appointed last year to fill out the remaining term of former council member Jeff Thorsen after he was elected to the McHenry County Board in 2016. Hubbard won his second term – like Haleblian, he was appointed to fill a vacancy made when a council member won a County Board seat. Dawson has been a council member for 18 years. Voters also re-elected City Clerk Nick Kachiroubas, who ran unopposed.
