High school boys tennis roundup: Woodstock, Marian Central earn sweeps

Woodstock's boys tennis team was perfect in a nonconference sweep of Round Lake on Friday in Woodstock. Adam Boyle won his match at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1). Jax Obenchain won at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Cullen Brown won, 6-3, 6-4. 

In doubles, No. 1 pair Austin Ellegood and Chris Carzoli won, 6-1, 6-2. Noah Robey and Ian Dawdy won, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2. The No. 3 pair of Andrew Gippert and Spencer Zanck won, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4, Zack Hardin and Sam Hughes won, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4. 

Marian Central 7, Johnsburg 0: At Johnsburg, the Hurricanes swept Johnsburg to remain unbeaten (5-0) on the season. Marian’s Michael Dowling defeated Brian Anderson, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Ian Brzeski won at No. 2 singles and Traison Diedrich won at No. 3 singles. 

In doubles, Marian’s No. 1 pair of Connor Pivnicka and Sam Reckamp defeated Johnsburg’s Luke Wolter and Kevin Somple, 6-4, 6-3. Marian’s No. 2 pair of Cade Seeger and Charlie Reyes picked up a win, as did No. 3 pair Patrick Struttman and Christian Fernandez and No. 4 pair Michael Cronin and Ryan Grossman. 

Johnsburg drops to 0-3. 

Carmel 6, Woodstock North 1: In Woodstock, the Thunder lost a nonconference matchup. 

Thursday's late result

Cary-Grove 6, Prairie Ridge 1: At Prairie Ridge, the Trojans almost swept the Wolves in the Fox Valley Conference opener for both teams. The No. 1 doubles pair of Patrick Nasta and Daniel Lamar picked up the lone victory for the Wolves (2-3, 0-1 FVC), defeating Quinn Glinieki and Matthew Poole, 6-2, 6-0. 

For C-G (3-1, 1-0), No. 1 singles player Michael Ptaszek, No. 2 singles player Sam Sitarski and No. 3 singles player Thomas Conneen won their matches. At No. 2 doubles, Luke Weber and Kevin McDonald won, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The No. 3 doubles pair of Colin Enstrom and Theodore Price won, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4. The No. 4 doubles pair of Patrick Miller and Joseph Stanley won, 6-3, 6-3.
