BARRINGTON HILLS – Home of the Sparrow is celebrating its 30th year in service April 29.
The 30th Anniversary Gala will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. at The Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills.
The event will start with a self-guided tour of the Sanfilippo “Place de la Musique,” which is well-known for its restored antiques collection. After the tours and concert, the gala will include an open bar, dinner, short presentation, auctions and raffles. The event’s guest speaker will be former NFL tight end Christian Hopkins, who will talk about his personal experience with homelessness.
Attendees also will get to enjoy an organ concert featuring iconic musical pieces by famous organist R. Jelani Eddington.
Founded in 1987, the nonprofit later expanded to include four more units in 1997 and an additional five in 2015. It now serves more than 800 people a year through housing and supportive services.
Home of the Sparrow opened its first Sparrow’s Nest Thrift Store in McHenry in 1992.
All proceeds from the thrift stores support the agency’s mission to help homeless women and children in McHenry County and northern Illinois.
Gala tickets are $175 a person or $1,650 for a table of 10. People also can buy a Pearl Sponsorship for $500, which includes two tickets to the Gala and name recognition in the program book, newsletter, website and social media.
