High school softball roundup: Jacobs shuts out Crystal Lake South; Harvard wins on walk-off homer

Jacobs' Savannah Svedman pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 Fox Valley Conference win over Crystal Lake South on Wednesday in Algonquin. Svedman struck out three and walked three without allowing a run in seven innings.

The Jacobs offense was buoyed by Jessica Mrzlak and Emily Pena each recording two hits for the Golden Eagles (7-4-1, 2-2 FVC). 

South’s Christina Toniolo took the loss, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits in six innings. Toniolo struck out five and walked two. 

Brittany Baker, Carly Chovanec, Maddie Bush and Skylar Olsen each had a hit for the Gators (8-5, 2-3). 

Huntley 6, Cary-Grove 3: At Huntley, Sofia Tenuta went 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and two runs scored to lead a Huntley offense that had 14 hits in an FVC win over the Trojans (1-8, 1-4). Teagan O’Rilley also had three hits, including a double and two RBIs while Rylie Porretto, Taylor Pacana and Caitlin Brown each added two hits for the Red Raiders (9-4, 5-0).

Tiffany Giese (9-3) earned the win for Huntley by pitching all seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs, one of them earned. Giese struck out eight and walked one. 

C-G’s Emma Hill took the loss, giving up three earned runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. Jill Deering went 2 for 3 with a home run, and Kelly Johnson went 2 for 3 with a double.  

Harvard 9, South Beloit 7: At Harvard, Daniela Garcia hit a walk-off home run in the seventh inning to give the Hornets (1-11) a nonconference victory, their first win of the season.

Alden-Hebron 19, Hiawatha 2 (5 inn.): At Hebron, Zoe Derringer earned the win with three no-hit innings, and her offense provided 19 runs of support as the Giants (8-8, 3-1) picked up a Northeastern Athletic Conference victory. 

Lexi Morris went 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Kylie Winter went 3 for 3 with two stolen bases. Chey Knoll had a pair of hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Emily Webber hit a home run.
