To the Editor:
The Centegra Health System often gets a bad rap – some of which is deserved. I certainly have had my tussles with the billing department!
But some departments do amazing work, and I wanted to give recognition to the nurses and patient care techs (PCTs) of the Centegra Inpatient Rehab unit in McHenry. They not only helped me heal, they actually changed me.
I spent about three weeks there after a car accident. While the therapists (who deserve a letter of their own soon) worked developing the skills and strengths I would need to get by until I fully healed, the nurses and PCTs took care of me and tended to my many needs.
They did this with loving care and never appeared upset or perturbed, despite many unpleasant incidents which would have tried my patience, if I were in their role.
I say they changed me because, now that I am aware that there are such wonderful, caring people out there, I have become somewhat less cynical as a person. As I was checking out to go to home health care, they told me a nice reward is for a former patient, when they can walk again, to come back and say “Hi.” I hope to do this soon, and thank them again for their hard work.
