McHENRY – Construction is expected to start soon for a third Dunkin’ Donuts location in town.
The city issued a permit for Dunkin’ Donuts to start building at the southwest corner of Oak Avenue and Front Street. The doughnut shop will feature a drive-thru and outdoor seating.
“This is an infill projected on an underutilized property, which has been vacant for numerous years,” Director of Economic Development Doug Martin said. “This is the same owner as the other two, so they are reinvesting in the city. They are also great corporate citizens, and a new building at this location will drive additional investment on Front Street for similar businesses. Look at [the] three McDonald’s locations in relation to the three Dunkin’ Donuts.”
The current Dunkin’ Donuts stores in McHenry are at 3523 Diamond Drive and 4502 W. Elm St. Both have drive-thrus, and the Elm Street location is open 24 hours.
“That area can definitely use the convenience of a Dunkin’ Donuts, and that was one of the deciding factors to open the third location in McHenry,” multi-unit manager Naimesh Upadhyaya said.
The project is estimated to cost $350,000.
Upadhyaya said construction should start in the next couple of weeks, and it the shop is expected to open by the end of the year. A fence is up surrounding the property at the intersection of Front Street and Oak Avenue.
