McHENRY – Gary Lang Auto Group in McHenry, along with other Illinois car dealerships, is raising awareness and funds for members of the armed forces.
The McHenry dealership will fire up its grills July 15 to host a community fundraiser called Barbecue for the Troops, with proceeds directly supporting local military members and their families.
The grill out will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1107 Route 31, McHenry.
Wendy Wegner, marketing director at Gary Lang Auto Group, said this is the first year the business is participating in the barbecue fundraiser.
“We ultimately wanted to show our support for the troops to thank them for their service and to align ourselves with the [Chicago Automobile Trade Association] program,” Wegner said.
The CATA and its members will partner with the United Service Organizations of Illinois to host the Barbecue for the Troops fundraising event. The USO of Illinois is a nonprofit that helps military members stay connected to their families, homes and country throughout their service.
In the past four years, CATA dealers have helped raise more than $420,000 to support the USO of Illinois’ programs and services.
“Chicagoland dealerships have helped make a difference in the lives of our service members and their families by bringing their hometown communities together to support the USO of Illinois with the Barbecue for the Troops program,” said Alison Ruble, USO of Illinois President and CEO.
To help spread awareness, the public also can submit a photo or short video describing why they should win the ultimate backyard barbecue by posting, tweeting and sharing it with #BBQ4Troops. The winner will receive a private cooking demonstration by Real Urban Barbecue’s chef.
