The Designated Driver Booth, which Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital sponsors, offers free water and soft drinks to attendees who are age 21 and older and choose to remain sober and responsible throughout the four days of Music Fest, said Jeff Kleinschmidt, the entertainment director for Fiesta Days.
“I think that’s fantastic, promoting safe driving and making sure everyone gets home safe at the end of the night,” Mackie said.
Individuals not buying or consuming beer are eligible for the program, which is designed to ensure people enjoy and leave the festival safely. A big ice cooler of water, soda and Gatorade adjacent to the beer ticket tents keeps designated drivers hydrated for free while they enjoy the musical acts.
“It gives them a reason to stay there, make sure someone gets home safely,” Kleinschmidt said. “It’s been really well accepted.”
