In December, I wrote a column in this space about the future of digital content at Shaw Media.
That point marked the moment we started executing one of our biggest goals for this year: Making the online user experience a top priority.
We redesigned our website, debuted a new online newspaper, and made a commitment to providing an optimal experience of reading local news, sports, features and more on your phone.
I’m proud to say our page load speed is
33 percent faster than it was a year ago, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response to the changes we’ve made.
Because of those positive changes, we have taken a step this week to eliminate an inferior user experience.
Our mobile website experience has dramatically overtaken the experience on our news apps, which is why we’ve pulled our apps from your app store, and they will no longer update with the latest news.
We want to make every experience you have reading our news reporting, checking out our award-winning photography, catching up on the local high school teams and reading about the latest events or new businesses in town a great experience when you’re on your phone. Our improved website gives you more than our app ever could have hoped to.
And if you miss seeing that app icon on your phone screen, just remember to tap the bookmark icon on nwherald.com, and click add to your home screen when you’re on our website on your iPhone, or add it to the apps drawer on your Android.
