McHENRY — The United Way of Greater McHenry County named Crystal Lake native Jeff DeHaan as chairman of its 51st annual United Way campaign.

The 2017-18 campaign for McHenry County kicks off Sept. 13 with a breakfast rally, followed by a year of events and activities at local businesses that support the nonprofit’s mission, according to a news release from the organization. United Way of Greater McHenry County helped more than 91,900 people in 2016 and has raised more than $52 million for the county in the past 50 years.

“I'm excited and energized to take on the role of campaign chair this year, and look forward to being able to directly impact those in need in our county," DeHaan said. "We are blessed to live in such a wonderful community, filled with compassionate and caring individuals wanting to help their neighbors in need.”

DeHaan has taken on a variety of roles within McHenry County. As a result of his community involvement, leadership and professional accomplishments, DeHaan was named one of McHenry County’s Best Under 40 by the McHenry County Business Journal in 2013.

He is a senior wealth adviser and chief compliance officer of Clearwater Capital Partners based in Hoffman Estates. DeHaan has been a member of the Board of Directors of United Way of Greater McHenry County since 2013, and also has served on several committees before taking on the campaign chairman role. DeHaan is the treasurer for Crime Stoppers for Greater McHenry County, active with the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Leadership Greater McHenry County Class of 2015.

"We all know that the state's budget crisis has put a major stress on many of our community's nonprofits," DeHaan said. "It's never been more important to give where you live than it is today, and I'm honored to be able to help play a role in that.”

United Way of Greater McHenry County is a nonprofit organization that focuses on raising awareness and funds for 30 local health and human service agencies in the areas of health, financial stability and education.

“United Way plays a critical role in allocating those generous donations to the areas most in need, and then monitoring those donations to be sure they are being used to benefit our local community members," DeHaan said.
