Two Algonquin women killed in three-vehicle crash

Two Algonquin women were killed in a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon at 902 E. Algonquin Road, Algonquin Police said.

The incident happened about 3:12 p.m., when the driver of a car heading eastbound crossed the center line, striking two vehicles traveling westbound.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to Centegra Hospital – Huntley, where she was pronounced dead at 3:48 p.m. The driver of one of the cars traveling westbound, who was struck head on, was pronounced dead at the scene. The third driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Autopsies will be conducted Monday by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. Identities of the two deceased women are being withheld pending notification of family.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, Algonquin Police Department and the coroner’s office.

Route 62 between Longwood Drive and Sandbloom Road in Algonquin was shut down temporarily because of the crash.

A call to the Algonquin Police Department seeking details was not immediately returned.
