Jacobs junior Garrett Tighe shot a 32 to lead the Golden Eagles to a 147-149 Fox Valley Conference boys golf dual win over Prairie Ridge on Monday at Prairie Isle in Prairie Grove.
Jacobs improved to 5-0 in the FVC, while Prairie Ridge fell to 5-1. The Wolves had not lost an FVC dual in the past two seasons before Monday, going 13-0.
Riley Coakley added a 36 for Jacobs, Jarod Gray had a 38 and Jordan Stone – the Eagles' No. 7 golfer – had a 41. James Michaelson led the Wolves with a 36, followed by Cameron Karney (37), Dominic Leli (38), and Hunter Fredrick (38).
Jacobs still has FVC duals remaining against Crystal Lake South, McHenry and Dundee-Crown, and Prairie Ridge has yet to play Crystal Lake Central and Huntley.
Johnsburg 182, Harvard 199: At Chapel Hill in McHenry, Jay Balfanz shot a 7-over-par 42 for the Skyhawks in a Kishwaukee River Conference win against the Hornets. Rounding out the scoring for Johnsburg were Trevor Wotring (46), Tony Murtaugh (46) and Matthew Shelton (48).
Austin Gratz led Harvard with a 46, James Crout had a 50, Hunter Gratz had a 51, and Alex Garza and Jacob Chupich had 52s.
Zion-Benton Invitational: At Shepherd's Crook in Zion, Tighe earned medalist honors with a 2-under-par 69 for Jacobs, which took second in the 24-team field with a team score of 320.
Carmel's James Lentino (75) and New Trier's Jeremy Barretta (75) were next closest to Tighe. Coakley (83), Gray (84) and Ryan Wrzeszcz (84) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles.
New Trier won with a 317, McHenry (345) placed ninth, Crystal Lake South (347) was 10th, Cary-Grove (349) was 12th, Dundee-Crown (382) was 20th and Johnsburg (448) was 23rd.
Crystal Lake South's John Lischynsky was sixth with a 77, and McHenry's Truman Keppy (79) was eighth. Cary-Grove's Patrick Tobin and Dundee-Crown's JP Anderson both shot 83s to lead their teams.
