Police seize dozens of 6-foot-tall marijuana plants from Lake in the Hills home

Street value of drugs totals $56,064, police say

WOODSTOCK – A Lake in the Hills man was arrested Monday after police raided his home and found 74 marijuana plants – most 6 feet or taller – and about half a pound of marijuana.

The street value of the drugs totaled $56,064, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force detectives received information that there was a hidden marijuana growing operation at a home in the 100 block of Grant Avenue in Lake in the Hills, according to the news release.

On Monday, detectives searched the 936-square-foot ranch home where Thomas M. Discher was living. Police arrested Discher after finding 74 marijuana plants, most 6 feet or taller, and about half a pound of marijuana, deputies said. Police said they also found packaging materials and equipment, including a digital scale.

Discher, 47, was in the home with his wife and four children at the time of the search, deputies said.

He was charged with production of marijuana plants, marijuana delivery, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

If convicted, Discher could face up to seven years in prison on the most serious charge.

Discher will appear in court before Judge James Cowlin on Sept. 26. He remained in McHenry County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of posting 10 percent of his $50,000 bond.
