The aeronautical maneuvering was part of the company’s continued construction on its 27-acre expansion. The first phase of the expansion will add about 50 jobs, while the second phase – which would add an additional 610,000 square feet of warehouse, manufacturing, office and parking space by 2021 – is expected to add about 300 jobs, village officials have said.
Project leaders previously said the facility is expected to be operational by the end of the year, and Sage Products’ Director of Marketing Communications Mike Nygren said construction is right on schedule.
“We had a lot of rain in July that was a little bit of a setback, but it didn’t have a huge impact on our schedule or set us behind,” Nygren said.
Nygren said the helicopter was lifting heating, ventilation and air conditioning units for the building’s roof to heat and cool the facility.
“We’ll be partially up and running as planned by the end of 2017,” Nygren said.
Sage bought the 27 acres of land east of its current facility, 3909 Three Oaks Road, for about $3.3 million in December, records show. Sage Products had considered another location outside of Cary, but the village made the expansion doable for them, in part by allowing for the closure of Sage Parkway, Cary Mayor Mark Kownick said.
“We’ve done well here,” former Sage Products Vice President of Commercial Operations Sean Haley said in April at the ceremonial groundbreaking. “Why would we go anywhere else?”
