Letter: Citizens must be involved, pay attention

To the Editor:

Well, we continue to see what U.S. President Donald Trump is all about. He has now appointed for assistant attorney general for civil rights a lawyer, Eric Drieband, who has spent most of his career fighting against equal pay for women, as well defending corporations accused of employment discrimination.

Add this to the explosion at the chemical plant that added to the disaster in Houston, which injured 15 first responders, made worse by the Environmental Protection Agency refusing to enact a federal regulation by the previous administration.

Day after day we find out what President Trump means by cleaning the swamp.

What he means is to get rid of people, rules and regulations that were in place to provide equal opportunity for the average guy and do whatever it takes to provide an advantage for his corporate buddies and the 1 percent as well as attack all things public, those things that are there for all of us.

There really is only one solution with money now such a big factor in politics thanks to the Citizens United decision.

That solution is for the average citizen to be involved, pay attention, be informed and active.

Start by writing your senators about Mr. Drieband and encourage them to oppose his appointment.
