Cameron Karney posted an 8-over-par 80 and won a two-hole playoff to earn medalist honors and lead Prairie Ridge to its second straight regional title Tuesday at the Class 2A Harvard Regional at Abbey Springs Golf Course in Fontana, Wisconsin.
Karney beat teammate Dominic Leli and Rockford Boylan's Zach Schwarzbach in the two-hole playoff as the Wolves finished with four out of the top eight golfers overall. Leli had an 80, Jason Giffels had an 83, and Joe Thompson had an 86 to round out the scoring.
Prairie Ridge won with a 329, four shots ahead of Boylan (333). Marian Central was third with a 356, Harvard (407) was sixth, and Marengo (464) was eighth. The top three teams advance to Tuesday's Grayslake Central Sectional at Stonewall Orchard Golf Club in Grayslake.
Marian Central was led by James Lydon (86), Andrew Lydon (88), Daniel Stumpf (88) and Dante Bucci (94). Harvard's Austin Gratz had an 89 and moves on to the sectional as one of 10 individuals from non-advancing teams to make it through.
Rounding out the scoring for Harvard were Hunter Gratz (104), Alec Garza (105) and Jacob Chupich (109). The top four for Marengo were Brady Cannon (110), Aidan Kirchner (110), Tyler Nelson (115) and Matt Fischer (129).
Class 2A Lakes Regional: At Midlane in Wadsworth, Richmond-Burton advanced three to the Grayslake Central Sectional. Moving on for the Rockets were Matt Eskuri with an 84, Connor Lindley (89), and Jackson Bolman (91).
Alex Riedel of Antioch was first with a 7-over-par 78. Vernon Hills placed first with a 331, St. Viator (337) was second and Grayslake Central (354) was third. R-B was three shots from qualifying with a 357 and placed fourth. Johnsburg did not advance any individuals and had a team score of 412 for ninth place.
Richmond-Burton's Hunter Volkmar had a 93, Jake Thoma had a 94 and Everett Robinson had a 96. Johnsburg was led by Bryce Herr with a 93. Also scoring for the Skyhawks were Trevor Wotring (102), Jay Balfanz (107) and Kyle Muehlfelder (110).
Class 3A Zion-Benton Regional: At Shepherd's Crook in Zion, McHenry sophomore Truman Keppy finished three shots off the lead and tied for seventh with a 10-over-par 81, advancing to Monday's Warren Sectional at Bittersweet in Gurnee. Liam Nielsen (89) also advanced for the Warriors.
Scott Frevert of Lake Forest earned medalist honors with a 78. Lake Forest was first with a 319, Carmel (329) took second, and Mundelein (330) took third. McHenry placed sixth with a 351.
Rounding out the scoring for McHenry were James Gordon (90) and Ryan Peters (91).
