Letter: No toilet paper at Crystal Lake post office?

To the Editor:

So the Crystal Lake post office has stopped supplying its employees with toilet paper, hand soap and paper towels in their washrooms. What a perfectly efficient means to spread E. coli, salmonella, shigella and cryptosporidium, to name a few bacteria, throughout the world at the speed of snail mail. Please note my letter arrived via email.

Editor’s note:

The Northwest Herald reached out to U.S. Postal Service spokesman Sean Hargadon before printing a letter Oct. 4 regarding problems at the Crystal Lake post office. Hargadon responded with the following: “I was able to investigate this issue further. The Crystal Lake post office is currently working with our facilities group to replace the air-conditioning unit at the building. We certainly appreciate our employees’ commitment to provide excellent service to the community during this time. Regarding the issue about paper products and soap, the post office went through a personnel change back in the spring of the supply clerk, which caused supplies to run low. The postmaster addressed this issue and restocked the supplies until a new clerk was assigned to the position.”
