SENECA TOWNSHIP – A 48-year-old New Lenox man has plead guilty to one count of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs in a 2012 crash that killed a child, according to a news release from McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally.
Leonardo R. Martinez faces three to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections unless the court determines there are “extraordinary circumstances” that require a sentence of probation, the state’s attorney said.
Martinez allegedly ran a stop sign in September 2012 at the intersection of Millstream Road and Route 176 and crashed into another car, killing one of its passengers – a 4-year-old girl. Blood and urine tests showed cocaine in his system, according to the state’s attorney.
Martinez was driving with a passenger and a 5-year-old at the time of the crash, according to previous Northwest Herald reports.
Sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 18.
