Though she couldn’t best her third-place finish from a year ago, Lyne was reasonably happy with her 12th-place finish at the IHSA Class 2A girls golf state finals at Hickory Point in Decatur.
Lyne shot a 4-over-par 76 in Saturday’s second round to finish the tournament at 6-over 150.
“I started off really well,” Lyne said of Saturday’s round. “I didn’t give myself a lot of close birdie looks. I did have a couple birdies on the back side. Overall, my driver was a little bit off today, but it got better as the day went on.”
It didn’t help that the course was windy, making approach shots difficult. The Cary-Grove sophomore birdied No. 2, No. 11 and No. 17. She had seven bogeys on the day.
New Trier junior Penelope Tir won the state title with an even-par 144. Brianne Bolden (145) of Lincoln-Way Central finished tied for second with Barrington’s Caroline Smith (145).
