High school girls tennis: Woodstock North's Cullotta, Jacobs' Steinkamp, Skepnek bow out at state finals

Woodstock North sophomore singles player Aly Cullotta won another match in the IHSA Class 1A girls tennis state finals on Friday in Buffalo Grove.

Cullotta won her first match of the day, competing in the third round of the consolation bracket, over Amaya Fernandes of Normal University High, 6-1, 6-0.

She then lost to Jessie Mitchell of Chicago Payton, 6-3, 6-1. Cullotta, who was the Kishwaukee River Conference singles champion, finished her run at the state finals with a 3-2 overall record.

Class 2A state finals: Jacobs seniors Haley Steinkamp and Kylie Skepnek lost their first match on Friday in the Class 2A doubles consolation third round.

Steinkamp and Skepnek — who were the FVC doubles champions — lost, 6-4, 6-0, to O’Fallon’s Miley Brunner and Kate Macaluso. They finished their run at the state finals 2-2 overall.
