To the Editor:
It has been repeatedly reported that Centegra Health System has sustained an operating loss of $62.3 million. Centegra contends this loss is due in great part to slow payments by Medicare and Medicaid.
This financial burden has resulted in the closing of all inpatient services at Centegra Hospital – Woodstock and layoffs and outsourcing of more than 300 Centegra employees.
It now is announced that Centegra, in spite of a dire financial burden, has purchased an OB-GYN practice at an undisclosed dollar amount, stating that “the practice was brought on board as part of Centegra’s long-standing commitment to the community.”
How tragic that Centegra Health System’s commitment does not include the Woodstock community and its more than 25,000 residents.
