High school girls cross country roundup: Johnsburg wins Winnebago Regional; Prairie Ridge's Chelsea Gale finishes 1st at Antioch

Johnsburg put all five of its runners in the top 17 Saturday to capture the team championship at the Class 1A Winnebago Regional.

Sam Schmidt ran the course in 18 minutes, 3.97 seconds to finish third overall. Winnebago's Natalie Martino finished in 17:21.31 for the individual title.

Katelyn Davis finished 10th for the Skyhawks, Sammy Knutilla and Ashley Molidor came in 12th and 13th, respectively, and Hannah Anderson followed in 17th.

Harvard also advanced as a team to next Saturday's Oregon Sectional with a sixth-place finish. Kayla Austin led the Hornets in 18th place.

Marengo's Hannah Secor finished fourth to advance to sectionals as an individual qualifier.

Class 3A Hononegah Regional: Jacobs posted 62 points to finish second, and Fox Valley Conference rival Huntley was just three points behind to finish third. Hononegah won the team title with 44 points.

Jacobs' Alyson Doherty was the area's highest individual finisher in fourth place in 19:16.7. DeKalb's Katherine Olsen won the title in 18.07.4.

Doherty's teammate, Jenna Skuza, came in seventh, and Meghan Lemke also cracked the top 15 with an 11th-place effort.

All five of Huntley's runners placed in the top 17: Grace Allen (9th), Rachael Morrison (10th), Annie Mitchell (13th), Olivia Boncoskcy (16th) and Madison Overly (17th).

Both teams will run at next Saturday's Waubonsie Valley Sectional.

Class 3A Palatine Regional: Barrington's 32 points ran away with the team title, but Cary-Grove's 68 points were good enough for second place.

Allison Drage's fifth-place finish topped the Trojans' effort. Morgan Dieschbourg (10th), Ellie Miller (12th), Delaney Blohm (13th), Teagan Hayes (28th) also scored for Cary-Grove.

McHenry and Dundee-Crown failed to advance as teams, but will each send individuals to next Saturday's Hoffman Estates Sectional. D-C's Sylvia Waz finished ninth overall, while McHenry's Rhyanna Oeffling and Ariel Pala came in 11th and 29th, respectively.

Class 2A Burlington Regional: Crystal Lake South's 55 points were just four behind Kaneland's 51 for the team championship.

South put all five of its scorers inside the top 20: Emma Murphy (7th), Olivia Beckwith (8th), Chelsea Greene (10th), Mackenzie Aldridge (11th) and Emma Heuck (19th).

Crystal Lake Central's Katelyn Smith came in second overall (18:23.89) to lead the Tigers to a sixth-place finish. Kaneland's Rachel Richtman won the individual title in 18:11.30. Central's Kylie Smith also broke into the top 20 with a 17th-place effort.

Hampshire will join South and Central at next Saturday's Kaneland Sectional after finishing sixth as a team. Sophia Oury was the Whip-Purs' top runner in sixth place.

Class 2A Antioch Regional: Chelsea Gale's individual championship helped Prairie Ridge secure a spot at next Saturday's Kaneland Sectional.

Gale ran the course in 18:37.27 – 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Brooke Stromsland of Lakes – to allow the Wolves to snag the sixth and final team spot. Vernon Hills claimed the team title.

Chloe Gale also cracked the top 20 for PR with a 17th-place finish.

Class 2A Belvidere Regional: Woodstock and Woodstock North finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to qualify for next Saturday's Kaneland Sectional.

Kyle Hagmann came in third overall (18:39.3), and teammate Shannon Koscinski finished 13th. Madison Diercks won the individual title to lead Belvidere North to the team championship.

Emma Mergl and Meghan McCann finished 20th and 21st, respectively, to top Woodstock North's effort.
