31-year-old man killed after being struck by car in Marengo

MARENGO – A 31-year-old man who was trying to cross the street was killed after being struck by a car Sunday night in Marengo, police said.

Marengo police responded about 6:21 p.m. to Route 176 and Prospect Street, according to a news release from Marengo police. 

A preliminary investigation showed that a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer traveling east on Telegraph Street struck the man, who was trying to cross the street, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 70-year-old driver and her passenger were not injured.

It was dark and raining at the time of the crash, police said, and the man who was struck was wearing dark clothing.

Marengo police and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Accident Team continue to investigate the crash.

Names are being withheld pending notification of the family, police said. No tickets have been issued. Police could not be reached for information Sunday.
