McHenry County coroner identifies Marengo man killed in Sunday night crash

MARENGO – The McHenry County Coroner’s Office has identified a 31-year-old Marengo man who died Sunday night after being hit by a car in Marengo.

Jaime L. Campuzano was crossing Telegraph Street at the Prospect Street intersection about 6:15 p.m. Sunday when a car driven by a 70-year-old woman hit him, according to a news release from the coroner’s office. Campuzano was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner’s office will perform an autopsy Tuesday morning to determine the cause of death.

The 70-year-old woman was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer east on Telegraph Street when she struck the man, police said. The woman and her passenger were not injured.

Police said it was dark and raining at the time of the crash, and Campuzano was wearing dark clothing.

Marengo police and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Accident Team continue to investigate the crash.
