WONDER LAKE – A 26-year-old Wonder Lake man was airlifted to the hospital and is in critical condition after a single-vehicle rollover crash Thursday night in an unincorporated area near Wonder Lake.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, police said. The driver, Tyler Scholz, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred about 6:22 p.m. in the 7700 block of Howe Road. Scholz, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling east on Howe Road when he drove off the north side of the road and into a field, police said.
Scholz was ejected from the truck and was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
It is unknown why the truck drove off the roadway, according to the release. Scholz was the only person in the car and was taken by Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he remained in critical condition Friday morning.
Scholz is due in court Dec. 12.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
Members of the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District and Wonder Lake Police Department also responded.
