Harvard man convicted of criminal sexual assault

HARVARD – A 28-year-old Harvard man was found guilty of criminal sexual assault after a bench trial.

Shauntaine Curry could face up to a 30-year sentence in prison and will have to serve
85 percent of the sentence, under the Truth in Sentencing guidelines, according to a news release from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Curry also will have to register as a sex offender for life.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Sharyl Eisenstein and Mary School and investigated by Harvard Police Department Detective Verle Leard.

Curry is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 8 and was charged July 25, 2016.

He previously was charged with aggravated kidnapping in 2008. Curry was 18 years old at the time and grabbed a 12-year-old girl.
