CRYSTAL LAKE – A Crystal Lake-based no-kill animal shelter is hosting its annual benefit event Saturday at the Crystal Lake Country Club.

The Assisi Animal Foundation announced the dinner dance in a news release.

“In honor of the many brave men and women who have served the United States, the theme of this year’s event is ‘Celebrate Another Year and Support our Veterans,’ ” the release said.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the country club, 721 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. WGN Radio – 720 AM host Steve Dale will lead a live auction, and veterans and Assisi Foundation members will share their experiences.

“For the last 28 years, this event has grown into a premier event attended by locals and guests from Chicago,” the release said.

The shelter, which was built in 1988, was the first no-kill shelter in the area. It now houses about 200 cats and dogs while they wait for adoptive homes. The animals also visit local nursing and assisted-living facilities.

For tickets, call 815-455-9411 or visit www.assisi.org.
