The Jacobs-Hampshire co-op girls swim team captured the Fox Valley Conference Invitational Saturday thanks in part to a big day from freshman Jennifer Tokarz.
Tokarz was named the meet's Newcomer of the Year after she took home first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.62) and the 500 freestyle (5:12.68). Tokarz also teamed up with Atzi Gomez, Izzy Bavaro and Megan Herrera to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:42.46).
Bavaro also earned the win in 100 backstroke (1:00.35).
Jacobs-Hampshire's 276 points were good enough for the team title. Crystal Lake Central co-op finished 40 points behind in second, and Huntley finished third with 218 points. Cary-Grove was fourth with 162 points followed by McHenry (146), Woodstock co-op (79) and Dundee-Crown (71).
Central co-op's Valerie Tarazi and McHenry's Caileigh McCafferty were named the meet's MVPs.
Tarazi won the 100 butterfly (56.05) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.24). She teamed up with Sarah Niemann, Makayla Nietzel and Jamie Gindorf to take home the top spot in the 200 medley relay (1:52.76). The same foursome also captured first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.74).
McCafferty won the 200 individual medley in 2:08.34, and also took first in the 100 freestyle (53.19).
Huntley's Sydney McGuine posted the top time in the 50 freestyle in 25.31 seconds.
