HEBRON – The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed additional charges against a Hebron man accused of sexually assaulting a child then evading police for 10 days.

Prosecutors on Wednesday filed five more counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim younger than 13 against Esau Ancheyta Hernandez, 26, of Hebron. His bond also was increased to $3 million after being put in the McHenry County jail.

The added charges typically are punishable by six to 30 years in prison.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was called Oct. 13 to a home in the 12000 block of Hebron Road in an area near Hebron for a report of a sexual assault, according to a news release.

Hernandez is accused of assaulting a child at the home and taking off on foot when he was confronted by family members.

After a 10-day search involving area police departments, K-9s, drones and a helicopter, police found Hernandez on
Oct. 23 hiding under a bed in an Ames, Iowa, apartment.
