Nearly 20,000 people lose power Monday morning in McHenry County

Power was restored to the nearly 20,000 people throughout McHenry County who reported outages Monday morning, a ComEd spokesman said.

Outage reports began about 8:15 a.m. ComEd was able to restore service to about 1,000 people by 10:50 a.m., spokesman John Schoen said.

Marengo was one of the most heavily affected areas, Schoen said.

Marengo School District 165 sent an alert to parents about 10 a.m. notifying them of a power outage in all buildings. Power returned by 10:30 a.m., district officials said. Schools had working bathrooms and running water but no phone service.

Power was restored to most of Harvard School District 50 by 10 a.m. Crosby Elementary was the last of Harvard schools to regain power, with restoration by 10:15 a.m., according to an announcement on the district’s Facebook page.

School continued as normal. Workers have not yet determined a cause for the outage.

Fewer than 1,000 people were out of power as of 11:30 a.m., and fewer than five were affected by 8 p.m., according to ComEd’s outage map.
