WOODSTOCK – A Wonder Lake man pleaded guilty Tuesday to punching and raping a woman in November 2016.
Bohdan Y. Ostryzniuk, of the 5200 block of Patton, accepted a plea deal that could land the 38-year-old four to 15 years in prison. Ostryzniuk, beside his public defender, Angelo Mourelatos, entered guilty pleas to criminal sexual assault and domestic battery in court Tuesday morning.
The negotiation between the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and the public defender’s office dropped a second count of criminal sexual assault and reduced the felony aggravated domestic battery charge against Ostryzniuk to a charge that is punishable by less than a year in prison, rather than three to seven years.
Mourelatos declined to comment on the case before Ostryzniuk’s sentencing Jan. 19.
Representatives from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office could not immediately be reached to provide further details on the deal.
Prosecutors have said that on Nov. 17, 2016, Ostryzniuk punched a woman in the face multiple times, requiring her to get stitches, and raped her, court documents show.
Ostryzniuk is scheduled to appear in court again Dec. 15 to meet with his attorney before he is sentenced.
He remained at the McHenry County Jail on Tuesday afternoon on $80,000 bond.
