Class 4A Girls Volleyball State Tournament Information
Crystal Lake Central advanced to the Class 4A girls volleyball state tournament this weekend at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena in Normal.
When: Crystal Lake Central (33-3) will play Marist (39-1) at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday in a semifinal.
How they got here: Crystal Lake Central captured its first Class 4A supersectional title, beating New Trier, 25-22, 25-21, in a Lake Zurich Supersectional final. Marist swept Mother McAuley 25-21, 25-16 in the Mother McAuley Supersectional.
What's on the line? The winner between Crystal Lake Central and Marist will play for the 4A championship at approximately Saturday 8:55 p.m. against either St. Charles North or Minooka. The third-place match will be at approximately 7 p.m.
About the Tigers: Crystal Lake Central is making its fourth state appearance and first in 4A. The Tigers lost twice to Huntley and once to Minooka, winning the outright Fox Valley Conference title with a 15-1 record. Central placed first at the 3A state meet in 2007 and fourth in 2009. The 2007 team went 42-0.
About the RedHawks: Marist has won 30 in a row since a 25-20, 25-17 loss to Mother McAuley on Sept. 12. The RedHawks took first in the East Suburban Catholic Conference at 7-0. Marist is making its first state appearance since 2011.
