Top 10 Trivia with Jack DeRue

Greetings! Jack DeRue here, your marshal of minutiae, ready for another round of trivia.

This week’s trifles have to do with population …

1. Since 1960, the world population has doubled.

2. There are more people in Bangladesh than in Russia.

3. There are more people in the Greater Tokyo Area than in all the country of Canada.

4. Less than 1 percent of the Caribbean Islands are inhabited.

5. Half the world’s population is Chinese or Indian. The other half is not.

6. About 6 percent of all the people who ever lived on Earth are alive today. That means that 94 percent of mankind did not survive.

7. Every second, about four people are born and two people die.

8. About half the people alive today are younger than age 30.

9. The average person on Earth is a 28-year-old, right-handed Chinese man. The below average person is a 68-year-old, left-handed trivia columnist.

10. Every quarter of a second, a woman gives birth to a baby. Our challenge is to find that woman and stop her.

Stay inquisitive, my trivial friends!
