PRAIRIE GROVE – Police closed part of Route 176 in Prairie Grove for several hours Saturday after a head-on car vs. semi-truck crash.
Emergency crews responded around 9:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of a head-on collision on Route 176 between Barreville Road and Smith Road in Prairie Grove.
Paramedics and police responded from Prairie Grove, Crystal Lake and Nunda Township and McHenry County Sheriff's deputies helped direct traffic.
A white Toyota sedan could be seen on the south side of Route 176 with severe front-end damage, and a semi-truck was stopped on the north side of the road. It appeared to have damage to its front end as well. An unknown liquid spilled from the truck onto the roadway.
It was unclear if there were any injuries as of Saturday morning.
Prairie Grove police are handling the investigation, and officers on the scene said they needed more time before providing any information about the crash Saturday morning.
The sheriff's office sent a Nixle alert just after 11 a.m. Saturday, telling residents to avoid the area for the "next few hours."
"The accident near Route 176 between Barreville and Smith will cause traffic backups and detours for the next few hours," the alert said.
