Letter: District 155 school board should cut expenses

To the Editor:

I am surprised the Community High School District 155 Board is even considering a tax increase.

I contacted the district to get the enrollment numbers from 2013-14 through 2017-18 and the enrollment dropped by 568 students while the number of administrators dropped by three. Time to cut more administrators – and not by one or two.

Whenever a supervising body “needs” money, the first thing they think of is to raise taxes. Our taxes are so high that people contemplating moving to Crystal Lake are having second thoughts. Senior also are having second thoughts about remaining in Crystal Lake because of their property taxes.

Now is not the time to raise taxes. Now is the time to cut expenses.

I haven’t had the time to look up all the board members who ran in the last election. But I recollect that several members agreed that property taxes were too high. Now is the time for you to be held accountable and vote “no.” I do have a problem with board members who are related to someone employed by the district. In the future, I will be sure and check out the candidates to see they do not have this conflict of interest.
