High school wrestling roundup: Marian Central's Silva, Randazzo surpass 100 career wins; Hurricanes earn team title at Carmel

: Marian Central won the team title at the Carmel Dual Meet Tournament Saturday and Luke Silva and Anthony Randazzo each surpassed 100 career wins as the Hurricanes went 7-0 at eight different weight classes in Mundelein.

The Hurricanes defeated Kenosha Christian Life (Wisconsin), 54-24, in the final. Marian also had wins against St. Patrick, 76-6, Carmel, 65-6, Waukegan, 59-18, North Chicago, 66-12, and Richmond-Burton, 65-12, and Lake Forest, 47-21.

Silva (160 pounds) and Randazzo (132), both seniors, went 7-0 for Marian (7-0), as did Elon Rodriguez (113), Bryce Shelton (120) Daniel Valeria (126), Kaden Randazzo (145), Dylan Connell (152) and Joey Fitzgerald (170).

Fitzgerald is a junior, Valeria is a sophomore, and Rodriguez, Shelton, Kaden Randazzo and Connell are freshmen.

Ted DeRousse Invitational: At Antioch, Dundee-Crown placed seventh of 16 teams with 198 points. Chesterton (Indiana) took first with 340.5 points, followed by Deerfield (294). Crystal Lake South was 11th overall with 167.5 points, and Woodstock (121) took 13th.

Isiah Ziegler placed second overall at 285 pounds for D-C, Ricardo Zambrano (120) was third, Gabriel Scales (126) was fourth, and Wyatt Griggel (182) was fifth. Christian Olsen placed first overall at 106 pounds for the Gators, while Peyton Timmons (113) and Jason Burburija (220) each took fourth.

Woodstock’s Javier Villalobos was fifth at 285 pounds.

Chris Hruska Wrestling Classic: At Hoffman Estates, Crystal Lake Central took seventh place out of 18 teams with 132 points. Glenbard North won with 218.5 points and beat out St. Charles East (209.5) by nine points. Jacobs took eighth after Central with 110 points.

Liam O’Donnell placed first at 195 pounds for the Tigers, Caden Ernd (132) finished third, Stephen Bushy (182) took fourth, and Austin Ernd (138), Frank Carone (160) and Braden Bisram (170) all were fifth.

Justin Peters placed first at 113 pounds for the Golden Eagles, Jake Harrier (120) was runner-up, and Reese Wiggins (170) and Ryan Dykes (220) each finished third.

Vernon Hills Tournament: At Vernon Hills, the Hornets finished 5-0 on the second day of the tournament with victories over Maine East, 45-36, Hoffman Estates, 40-29, Glenbrook South, 42-33, Loyola, 48-30, and Chicago Taft, 42-29.

Hunter Gratz went 5-0 with five pins for Harvard at 120 pounds, Brett Lovell (126) was 3-0 with three pins, Keenan Brummett (145) was 4-0 with three pins and a major decision, 9-1, Marty Krasinski (195) was 3-0 with three pins, and Francisco Quinones (220) was 3-1 with three pins.

Woodstock North went 5-0, including wins against Willowbrook, 60-12, Round Lake, 32-30, Hoffman Estates, 66-12, Ridgewood, 59-12, and Maine East, 70-12. The Thunder finished 8-2 in two days.

McHenry Super Duals: At McHenry, the host Warriors lost all three matches, falling to 0-4 on the season. McHenry lost to Montini, 53-12, Aurora Christian, 52-19, and Providence Catholic, 52-24.

Geoff Cagle won all three of his matches for the Warriors at 285 pounds with a pair of pins and a decision, 3-2. Jake Leske (195) added a major decision, 16-8, over Aurora Christian.
