Becker is a repeat selection as Northwest Herald Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year and a third-time pick to the first team. He finished third in the Class 2A State Meet behind Kaneland’s Matt Richtman and Sterling’s Jacob Gebhardt, both of whom also beat him at the Kaneland Sectional. They were the only two runners to beat Becker all season. He will run at NCAA Division I Bradley next year, and Richtman will be a teammate.
Bertulis literally gutted it out his senior season, battling an abdominal strain early and then again late in the season. Still, he had his best year, culminating with a 13th-place finish in the Class 1A State Meet and All-State honors for a second straight season. He was second in the Kishwaukee River Conference Meet and third in the Oregon Sectional.
Conroy finished third in the FVC Meet and fourth in the McHenry County Meet, and although the Red Raiders’ order for their top three often changed week to week, coach Matt Kaplan said they ran their best when Conroy was in front.
Geisler joined Albrecht as the only local individual qualifiers for the Class 3A State Meet and finished 84th. He was seventh in the FVC Meet as the Raiders won the team title. He took third as the Raiders won the team regional title and took 16th at the Waubonsie Valley Sectional.
