Letter: D158 school board shouldn't raise property tax levy

To the Editor:

I’ve been waiting to hear District 158’s tax plan for the coming year.

As expected, recently I read where the district is planning on adding $1.29 million to its already enormous tax levy, and from the comments in this morning’s Northwest Herald, this additional burden seems to be justified with what amounts to a “just because we can and we want to” excuse.

What is it that the District 158 Board doesn’t get about McHenry County’s property tax crisis? People, this is not the time for business as usual when it comes to property taxes in this county.

I hope voters flood the Dec. 14 meeting to express their outrage at this inexcusable lack of fiscal responsibility on the part of the board.
