McCULLOM LAKE – An early morning residential fire Thursday caused an estimated $60,000 worth of damage to a McCullom Lake home.

McHenry firefighters responded about 4:20 a.m. Thursday to the 4700 block of Parkview Drive in McCullom Lake for a residential fire, according to a news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

First responders found smoke coming from the back of the home and its roof, then found a fire in an exterior wall that extended to the second floor. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and worked to restrict the fire from spreading further.

An occupant was home at the time of the fire but was able to escape without any injuries. No firefighters were injured in the incident.

McHenry fire investigators are investigating how the fire started.

Several other fire agencies assisted in covering McHenry's stations during the blaze.
