Fresh ingredients for holiday meals, homemade gifts draw pre-Christmas crowds
Even when the temperatures are freezing and snow covers the ground, Tammy Townsend Kise heads to the Woodstock Farmers Market for fresh produce and meats on Saturday mornings.
She sifts through the root vegetables and greens to find the freshest local produce around.
Long past the last sweet corn crop, when many casual farmers market shoppers assume the markets close for the season, Kise and a growing number of devoted shoppers continue getting their fresh, local goods at a handful of indoor winter markets in the McHenry County area.
The markets – in Woodstock, Huntley and Cary – started small, but are thriving and growing in popularity each year as more people learn of their existence.
