Crystal Lake South baseball coach Brian Bogda recently was selected as the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 4A Coach of the Year after leading the Gators to their first state championship this past spring.
South (36-5) won all seven of its postseason games by at least four runs on its way to the first baseball state title in school history. In fact, it was only the second baseball state championship for any area team, joining Prairie Ridge, which won the 4A state title in 2008.
Bogda will be one of the recipients recognized at the IHSBCA Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony on Jan. 20 at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center. Bogda, in his 10th season as the Gators coach, played his high school baseball at Huntley and played at NCAA Division III Elmhurst College.
The Gators actually finished second to Huntley in the Fox Valley Conference standings, but got hot at the most opportune time in the playoffs.
